YEAR END

December 31st of a calendar year; the last day of a FISCAL YEAR. The date when the financial records are CLOSED for the year.

YEARLY

Events that occur at intervals of 365 days, 52 weeks or 12 months. The most common cycle for measuring and comparing financial performance.

YES-MAN

A person who always agrees and apparently does not exert an opinion of his or her own. Particularly, someone who always agrees with the boss or supervisor regardless of personal convictions.

YIELD

In business or investing, the amount of RETURN (PROFIT) expressed as an annual percentage rate of the amount of capital invested; the RATE OF RETURN; the RETURN ON INVESTED CAPITAL. For a loan, the total money earned on a loan-that is, the ANNUAL PERCENTAGE RATE of interest multiplied by the term of the loan and by the principal amount invested. Other definitions of yield include: the agricultural output in terms of quantity of crops and the amount of revenue received by a government as a result of a tax.

YIELD TO MATURITY

The return on an interest-bearing investment, usually applied to a BOND. Yield to maturity measures the RATE OF RETURN of the bond if held to maturity, considering purchase price, redemption value, time to maturity, coupon yield and the time between interest payments.
